Coach Education

As a coach, you are responsible for the health and safety of your athletes, and it’s likely that you are aware of the recent focus on concussions in sports.  It is important for coaches to understand concussion basics, as well as steps to prevent and properly care for concussions when they occur. ConcussionWise PRO is a free online course developed specifically for coaches by Sport Safety International.  At the completion of the course, viewers will receive a completion certificate.

 

 Sudden cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death in young athletes.  CardiacWise is a free online educational program designed to educate coaches, parents, athletes on the prevention of sudden cardiac arrest in athletes.  This course is approximately 15 minutes in length.  Individuals who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate of completion.

The all-new CardiacWise course now features Protect this Heart, produced by Simon’s Fund. Sport Safety International is proud to partner with Simon’s Fund to offer this excellent educational program.

 

 

HeatWise is an online program designed to educate coaches and others involved in sports and physical activity on the prevention and management of exertional heat illness.  This course is approximately 20 minutes in length.  Individuals who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate of completion.  This course is a must for coaches of all levels!

 

Indiana-Coaches

Sport Safety International is proud to announce the release of its new Indiana Football Sport Safety Course

Effective July 1, 2014, SEA 222 requires that all football coaches (head coaches and assistant coaches) who coach children under the age of 20 and who utilize public property (parks, schools, public fields) for practice or games complete a coaching education course that covers concussion awareness, equipment fitting, heat emergency preparedness, and, proper technique . The Indiana Department of Education Concussion Advisory Board recommends that all volunteer football coaches participate in this training as well.This course was developed to satisfy the requirements of SEA222, and has been approved by the Indiana Department of Education.The Indiana Football Coaches Safety Course contains the following educational modules:1. ConcussionWise for Indiana Coaches
2. Understanding Indiana’s Concussion Law
3. Prevention and Proper Technique
4. HeatWise: Education for the Prevention of Exertional Heat Illness
5. Football Equipment FittingCoaches who successfully complete the post-test will receive a certificate of completion, and will be listed on the Indiana Coaches Registry, a searchable online database of coaches who have completed the Indiana Football Coaches Safety Course.

Tennessee-CW

 Sport Safety International is proud to announce the release of its new ConcussionWise Education Program for Tennessee Coaches

In April 2013, Governor Bill Haslam signed what is now Public Chapter 148, making Tennessee the 44th state to pass a sports concussion law designed to reduce youth sports concussions and increase awareness of traumatic brain injury.  Sport Safety International is proud to offer the a Tennessee version of ConcussionWise for Coaches, which includes specific information regarding the Tennessee Concussion Law.This course was developed to satisfy the requirements of Public Chapter 148, and has been approved by the Tennessee Department of Health.The ConcussionWise program contains the following educational modules:

1. Understanding the Problem
2. Recognizing Concussion
3. Concussion Care
4. Recovery and Return to Play
5. Understanding Tennessee’s Concussion LawCoaches who successfully complete the post-test will receive a certificate of completion, which can be printed immediately
